Regardless of whether you’re capturing the magic of your wedding day or having your portrait taken, choosing a photographer can be a difficult process.
When we got married, we went through the daunting steps of trying to find someone with that special something–someone whose style was different, spontaneous, fun, and whimsical, yet classic and beautiful at the same time. That search inspired us to take our classical training as artists and apply our skills as wedding and portrait photographers ourselves. In 2009 alone, we photographed over thirty weddings and dozens of portrait and engagement sessions.
It is our belief that our upbringing and training in the arts, including and beyond the realm of photography, give us a unique advantage wedding photographers; in addition to commanding a firm grasp of the principles of composition, light, and color, we view the world through an artistic lens which allows us to capture moments that may have gone unnoticed by another photographer.
About NINA
I was born in Moscow, Russia, and raised in Boulder, Colorado. I moved to New York when I was seventeen, where I earned my BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and my MFA from the New York Academy of Art. In addition to being an active photographer and painter, I have taught Drawing and Color Theory at the Metropolitan State College of Denver and hold a post as the Creative Director of Our Stereo, a design consultancy.
Occasionally somebody asks me at what age I decided to become a photographer or artist. To be honest, I have no idea as I’ve been around artists my entire life. My parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents comprise a rich tapestry of typographers, designers, art directors, sculptors, photographers, and painters, so it is no surprise that I chose to pursue art both academically and professionally.
I currently live in Denver, Colorado with my husband and business partner Danny and our two cats, Snuffleupagus and Chickadee who like to pretend they are really dogs.
About DANNY
I was born in Miami, Florida and like Nina, into a family with a healthy artistic lineage. My bloodlines are filled with artists: on my maternal side, my grandfather created the best-selling Happy Hollisters books and wrote installments of series including The Hardy Boys; and on my paternal side, I can count Marius de Zayas, the influential New York artist and gallery owner, among those whose artistic legacy has been passed down to me. At the age of eighteen, I began attending New York University, where I designed my own curriculum centered around film studies, taking graduate level courses and graduating magna cum laude in just three years. Since then, I have operated my own design consultancy, written about the arts for various publications, and found a professional niche as a photographer.
